a new lightbulb. Pick an
LED and you’ll save energy
and lightbulb life. To better match
traditional incandescent light, go for
one with a 2700 Kelvin rating. (Look on
the package for key numbers).
15 MINUTES: Think about new
shades for each of your fixtures. Your
lighting showroom can help you find
the right size. Textured options such as
linen add interesting contrast. Or use
your shades to pick up on an accent
color in a room.
30 MINUTES: Trade out dimmers and
switches for new smart-home options.
You might need a few DIY skills, but
most options don’t require any messy
60 MINUTES: Install a brand new
ceiling fixture—chandelier, pendant, or
other option. If you’ve got some solid
experience with DIY projects, you can
swap this out on your own. Or, ask an
electrician for help.
