BIG THING TO
— DAVID DIRECTOR, CLC,
PRESIDENT AND OWNER,
CONNECTICUT LIGHTING CENTERS
The color of your light fixture is just another one of
the considerations to make in the overall composition
of your room. Say you lean neutral in your decor: Use
a richer material—a deeply painted metal or wood—
so your chandelier works as a grounding element.
Or, in a more brightly hued space, pick one of the
secondary colors, and use it to guide the color choice
of drum shades on mini pendants.
THE PENDANT RULE Height matters
when you hang pendants or chandeliers
above an island. Plan on about 30 inches
from countertop to the bottom of the
fixture—more if you’re taller than average.

CENTRAL SETUP Not sure where to hang your light fixture over
a dining room table? When in doubt, go for the exact center of
the surface below; that placement helps to cast light evenly and
creates a pleasing visual vignette. Norridge, Feiss
