ALA Membership Campaign
Brings New Growth
Since April 17, 2017, the ALA Membership Campaign has generated 88 new
This year, 25 ALA members volunteered to participate in the campaign, which
was led by Bob Dillon, CEO of Hubbardton Forge and chair of this year’s
New manufacturer members receive 50 percent off their first year’s dues and
qualify to send one delegate to the ALA Annual Conference at half price. New
showroom, manufacturers’ representative and designer members receive a
25-percent discount on their first year’s dues and also qualify to send a delegate
to conference at half price.
“ALA’s annual membership campaign would not be possible without the
dedicated support of our members,” said Jacob Cambron, ALA director of
membership. In addition to the recruitment efforts, this year’s campaign
volunteers also incorporates retention efforts, which involve following up
with their commitments to discuss the programs offered by the association
and ensuring they are taking advantage of the many benefits offered to them
as ALA members.
for 2018 Board of Governors
The election of the nominees for the 2018 Board of Governors will
occur during the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Vancouver, B.C.
This year, three board member are up for election for their second
three-year term, and one new member is being elected for his first
three-year term. The nominees were selected by the 2017 Governors

Retiring from the Board of Governors this year is Michael Estrin, CLMR,
owner of Estrin Sales Agency in Manville, N.J. Estrin served as chair of
the Board in 2016 and has served two consecutive, three-year terms.

manufacturers, four manufacturers representatives and four
showrooms. Terms are for three years, and members may serve two
Using ALA’s Lighting Trends Videos
Studies show that video content is a great way to engage customers. Social
media posts containing videos get higher interaction, marketing emails with
videos boast higher open rates, and overall, people spend more time watching
videos than they do reading content online. It is clear that video is a worthwhile
marketing tool. However, it can be costly and time consuming to create
video content. Members of ALA can benefit from the fact the ALA BiNational
Advertising and PR Program has done some of the work for them. The lighting
trends videos are available to BiNational Program contributors to share and use
as they see fit. Check out these tips for using the videos across the web.
1. Enhance Your Website
The lighting trends videos can easily be embedded on members’ websites
through the You Tube links or video files. Members can create a video library
on their site, or highlight a video monthly on their website’s home page. It
is critical to tag the videos properly and/or include text relating to the video
on the website, which allows search engines to pick up on the content
2. Increase Your Open Rates
Lighting showroom members utilizing email marketing are already a step
ahead of the rest. An email marketing plan can be a great way to build
brand loyalty and keep old and new customer engaged. A recent study by
ClearFit and Marketo* found that emails that used videos for a direct call to
action had a 53-percent higher click-to-open rate over emails without an
obvious mention of video content.
3. Boost Your Social Stats
Videos don’t just catch consumers’ attention in email, they also boast higher
engagement over social media. Keeping up with relevant, new content over
multiple social media channels is no easy task. ALA’s videos contain up-to-date, relevant content on some of the most popular lighting trends and are
perfect for sharing over social media.
4. Create New Content
While the videos can be shared over various platforms, the content and
ideas in the videos can also be adjusted to fit other formats. For example,
showrooms may wish to transcribe portions of the videos to write new blog
posts. Sharing the content in multiple formats will help boost SEO rankings

Chad Teiber joins Teiber and Company
Teiber and Company recently announced the hiring
of Chad Teiber to their account sales/service team.
Teiber graduated from Indiana University in 2015 and
immediately went to work in commercial real estate in
Dallas. In his two years in the real estate business, his
successes included representing national retailers and
completing several retail and office leases. Although
Teiber enjoyed his time in the real estate business, he
felt a strong desire to join the family business as the
Teiber had previously worked several summers in the Teiber and Company
warehouse and in the field, assembling and installing displays. Teiber has been
raised around the lighting business and is ready to learn the job from the
ground up. His addition to the Teiber and Company team is expected to help
the company grow and provide an even higher level of customer service
