EPA Revises
ENERGY STAR
Luminaires V1.1
Start Date
Industry Leaders to Be Honored
at ALA Annual Conference
Light Watch
On July 1, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that
it had changed the effective date of the
ENERGY STAR Luminaires V1.1 specification from October 1, 2011, to April 1,
2012. All products manufactured on or
after this date must be certified to meet
the Luminaires V1.1 performance levels
in order to bear the ENERGY STAR
certification mark.
“EPA has advised me they will
monitor the program and, if
needed, adjust the date again.”
Dick Upton,
ALA president/CEO

“Based on input from program stakeholders, EPA is finalizing this extension
while also taking steps to address certain
barriers to qualification so that a broad
range of products can be qualified in
advance of the new effective date,” reads
the EPA statement.
The announcement of the six-month
delay came after the ALA met with
representatives from the EPA during the
association’s Washington, D.C., mission
in May to discuss the ENERGY STAR
requirements.
During the meeting in Washington,
D.C., the ALA urged the EPA to
make several adjustments to the
requirements of the ENERGY STAR
program, including:
