ALA Announces New Keynote Speaker Format for Conference
ALA recently announced a variety of changes to the schedule and events
for the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in
Huntington Beach, Calif., Oct. 1-3.
“It is our goal to continue to increase
the bottom-line value of the conference,”
said Beth Bentley, ALA director of confer-
ences. “For 2015 and the years to come,
we are planning to implement exciting
changes to keep content fresh and ensure
our members are getting the most out of
their experience.”
One exciting new aspect of the confer-
ence changes is a new format for the
Opening Breakfast keynote presentations,
which will be held this year on Friday, Oct.
2. Rather than featuring one main speaker,
the keynote address will be broken down
into three, shorter presentations. The goal
of these speeches will be to share ideas
related to the industry in the most innovative and engaging ways possible, in hopes
attendees will continue the conversation
throughout conference and take these
ideas home to apply to their daily lives.
The following topics will be discussed.
Reshaping the Workplace
As founder and Chief Movement
Officer of FutureSight Labs, Seth
Mattison’s presentations bring an entirely
unexpected perspective on the future of
work, talent, innovation, and the power of
relationships. Mattison has a passion for
helping to create greater understanding
and collaboration in today’s workplace.
Through his presentations, he offers participants actionable content that can immediately impact business performance.
For his conference keynote presentations, Mattison will offer a presentation titled, “The Shift: Reshaping the
Workplace by Transforming Leadership.”
As Mattison explains, companies built to
survive the future are no accident; they
are the result of deliberate business design
decisions. This requires recognizing the elevated state of disruption and fundamental shift taking place in the world of work.
In his talk, Mattison will explain why it is
time to go “all in” and be laser focused on
building a new company culture and new
leadership practices. Mattison will ask at-
tendees, “The future is now. Are you ready
for the transformation?”

Fleco Industries and ALA
Establish Larry Sayah Innovation
and Entrepreneurial Fund
Thurs., March 19, Jon Sayah, president,
and Richard Sayah, vice
president, of Fleco Industries
met with Eric Jacobson,
ALA president and CEO,
to establish the Larry
Sayah Innovation and
Entrepreneurial Fund.
The Fund recognizes
Larry Sayah’s fifty-plus year
career and continuing
dedication to providing creative and en-
trepreneurial innovations to the lighting
industry. The Sayah cousins, who have
worked together with Larry for the past
twelve years, believe the rapid changes
taking place in the industry
today require as many
inspired, dedicated lighting
professionals as possible.
“Our focus around
encouraging innovation
has been a long-standing
practice for Larry Sayah
in our company,” said Jon.
“Richard and I feel this fund
will be an incredible way
to recognize the amazing
things people all across the industry are
doing to inspire innovation during this
critical period of change.”

History Channel’s
“Operation Build”
Features ALA,
Lighting in the
Home
Joe Rey-Barreau, ALA’s education instructor, and the hosts of The History
Channel’s “Operation Build” TV Show
visited Herman and Adele Lebersfeld’s
home for a taping of a special segment on
how to light up your house. The show,
made possible by the ALA BiNational
Advertising and PR Program, aired on the
History Channel April 18 and on H2 April
25, and can be watched again on ALA’s
You Tube Channel or website.
“Operation Build” is a half hour
television series that travels all over the
country and around the world discovering great home improvement concepts in
renovations, remodels, and do-it-yourself
projects. The show is part history…part
reality…and part building technology.
“With this program airing on The
History Channel and the rapid technological changes happening in our industry,
the show was a good fit for both parties.
It allowed us to talk about LEDs and how
lighting can dramatically improve one’s
home and the reasons why one should
work with their local ALA showroom
member,” said Larry Lauck, ALA’s vice
president of communications.
Rey-Barreau walked throughout the
home with the hosts commenting on the
various fixtures, the importance of layering, using dimming controls with LEDS
as well as explaining the latest lighting
