Trends Featured
on American
Airlines
During the months of October and November 2015, a special, two-minute video segment highlighting the
trends featured in the 2015 Lighting
magazine will be shown on American
Airlines in-flight entertainment.
The video will air on American
Airlines TALK BUSINESS 360 television program on over 5,800 first
and business class flights, reaching
226,000 travelers. The video will also
be available on the program’s website,
talkbusiness360.com.
This special segment will allow the
association to reach a new market of
consumers during a time when it really
matters.
“The months of October and
November are the perfect time to be
advertising home renovation products
like lighting,” said Larry Lauck, ALA
vice president, communications.
“Passengers traveling on American
Airlines will be exposed to beautiful
lighting images and ideas just in time
for the holiday season. Lighting is
a quick and easy way to update any

ALA Conference App Now Available
Across all Platforms
The 2015 ALA Conference App is currently available
for download on all Apple and
Android devices.
The app features key conference information, including a full,
customizable schedule, speaker
information and handouts, maps
of the event site, exhibitor information, and a social community
platform by which attendees can connect
with each other.
The app was officially launched
during the June Dallas International
Lighting Market, and the association is
already seeing the momentum building.
“We are excited to see that many
members have already downloaded the
app,” said Eric Jacobson, ALA president
and CEO. “Conference attendees
are already connecting with each
other through the app’s social
platform, customizing their pro-
files and creating their personal
event schedules. These features
and more will truly help at-
tendees get the most out of their
conference experience.”
The app is free to download
for all 2015 ALA Conference attendees,
and can be located by searching “2015
ALA Conference” in the Apple and
Google Play stores, or online by visiting
ddut.ch/2015ala. Attendees should look
for the 2015 Conference artwork with
the surfboard and kite, and the navy blue
ALA thumbnail image to ensure they are
downloading the correct app.
Pillars of the Industry to be Honored
at ALA Annual Conference
This year’s Pillars of the Industry award recipients will be honored during the 2015 ALA Annual
Conference in Huntington Beach, Calif.
The winners include Andy Burns, CLC,
LC, CLMR, partner at Triple C Lighting
and Controls; Jeff Dross, corporate
director, education and industry trends,
at Kichler Lighting; and Bob Warmbold,
CLC, owner of Accent Lighting.
The Pillar of the Industry awards recognize ALA members for their unique
and meaningful service to advance the
lighting industry, as well as ALA’s programs and mission during the previous
18 months. Award recipients are nom-minated by ALA members and staff and
selected by the ALA Awards Committee.
Andy Burns, CLC, LC, CLMR
Burns began his career in lighting
in 1988, with Penny Lighting Sales,
a Manufacturers Representative firm
owned by his mother, Penny Burns
Klein. The Burns family sold the company to Triple C Lighting and Controls
in 2003, where Burns has worked since.
During his time with Triple C, Burns
has worked his way up to the position of
partner at the company.
Burns has been an active member of
ALA for many years, serving on multiple
committees. He currently serves on the
ALA Board of Governors and will be up
for election to serve his second three-year term on the board in December
2015. Since 2010, Burns has played an
active role serving on the Manufacturers
Representatives Steering Committee
and served as Chair of the Officers
Nominating Committee in 2012.
In addition to his active roles in
ALA, Burns has been recognized for his
outstanding work by the Illuminating
Engineering Society, receiving the Award
of Merit in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Burns is also a supporter of educational
and professional programs across the
industry. In 2007, he earned his Lighting
Certified designation from the National
Council on Qualifications for the
Lighting Profession. In 2001, he received
his ALA Certified Lighting Consultant
designation and later his Certified
Lighting Manufacturers Representative
designation.
Jeffrey R. Dross
Dross began his career in residential
lighting in 1974 while studying architecture. Currently, Dross serves as corporate director, education and industry
trends, and media spokesman at Kichler
Lighting in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to
that, he was primarily concerned with
running engineering for the company
for 25 years. He has also been involved
in many other facets of the business, including landscape, systems and energy-efficient lighting product management,
QA, graphics, production trouble-shoot-ing, and an ERP implementation.
In his curent position, Dross lectures
to professional organizations, including
ALA, and has authored a number of articles about lighting for trade publications,
consumer magazines and web journalism.
Dross is an active member of ALA,
frequently assisting in the ALA’s educa-
